Caramel Dip


Melt one bag of caramels with 2 Tablespoons of water. After they melt, mix in 8 oz. sour cream and 8 oz. cream cheese. Enjoy with sliced apples.

Apple Butter w/ Golden Delicious Apples


Place the apples in a slow cooker. In a medium bowl, mix the sugar, cinnamon, cloves and salt. Pour the mixture over the apples in the slow cooker and mix well. Cover and cook on high 1 hour. Reduce heat to low and cook 9 to 11 hours, stirring occasionally, until the mixture is thickened and dark brown. Uncover and continue cooking on low 1 hour. Stir with a whisk, if desired, to increase smoothness. Spoon the mixture into sterile containers, cover and refrigerate or freeze. Tell all your friends you made homemade apple butter. This will most likely make them jealous of you, at which point you offer them a jar. Or not. You're probably going to want it for yourself.



Old Towne Microwave Spiced Mulled Cider

O Heat 1 quart apple juice and 3/4 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice in the microwave on high until hot. Pour into mugs and garnish with orange slices stuck with whole cloves. Insert a stick of cinnamon into each mug. Makes 4 or 5 servings.

Apple Butter Bread

Combine flour, brown sugar, baking powder, soda and salt in a large bowl. Stir in 3/4 cup apple butter, apple juice, margarine and egg. Fold in raisins and walnuts. Pour half of the batter into prepared pan. Spread remaining 3/4 cup apple butter over batter. Gently pour remaining batter over apple butter. Bake at 350 degrees for 65 to 75 minutes or until top springs back when lightly touched in center. Cool 15 minutes before removing from pan and continue cooling on rack. Makes 1 loaf.

Apple Brown Betty

2 cups diced apples
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
2 teaspoons butter
3/4 cup brown sugar
2 cups bread crumbs

Place a layer of apples, then bread crumbs and half of sugar in a greased baking pan. Repeat and sprinkle cinnamon over top. Add 1/4 cup hot water, cover and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Remove cover and brown. Serve with ice cream or whipped topping.

Turkey Apple Bake

1-1/2 pounds ground turkey
1-1/2 cups dry bread crumbs
2 egg whites (instead of 1 whole egg)
1 cup applesauce
1/4 cup minced onion
1/4 cup finely chopped celery
1 Tablespoon prepared mustard
1 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon poultry seasoning
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
2/3 cup chili sauce or ketchup

Combine all ingredients but the chili sauce/ketchup; mix lightly; shape into 9x5x3" loaf pan. Top with chili sauce or ketchup. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. Yield: 6-8 servings.

Apple Salad

1/2 cup sugar
2 Tablespoons vinegar
2 Tablespoons flour
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup water
1 Tablespoon butter

Mix all ingredients for dressing in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and cool.


3 red apples, diced but not peeled
1/2 cup chopped nuts
1/2 cup drained crushed pineapple
1 cup miniature marshmallows
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup chopped celery

When dressing is cool, pour over fruit mixture and toss lightly. Refrigerate overnight. Will keep for several days in airtight container.

Spiced Apple Rings w/ Gala Apples

Start with about 5 Turkey Knob Gala apples 2 1/2" diameter is good. Peel and core the apples then slice into 1/2" rings. Add apple rings to large pot filled with 8 cups water, 2 Tbsp vinegar. (Tip: The vinegar prevents the apples from browning)


In another large pot (6-8 quarts) combine:

Bring to a boil over medium heat. sir constantly so the sugar doesn't burn. Reduce heat and let simmer 3-5 minutes. (Candy should've dissolved). Drain the apple rings and add to the syrup.

Gently stir the apple rings into the syrup and simmer for 5 minutes. Fill 4 to 5 clean, hot, pint canning jars with the apple rings. Strain the hot syrup to remove the whole spice and lemon. Pour the strained syrup over the rings leaving 1/2" headspace. Add lids and process in a water bath canner for 10 minutes.



Baked Virginia Gold Apples

Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Combine cinnamon, nutmeg, and sugar in a small bowl. Set aside. Core apples, making sure not to puncture the bottom of the apples so that the juices will remain. Remove skin from 1/2-inch around top of apples at the opening. Fill each cavity with the cinnamon-sugar mixture. Top each apple with a teaspoon of butter. Place apples in casserole dish and pour apple juice around them. Cover pan with aluminum foil and bake for approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour. Remove from heat, garnish with fresh mint, and serve.
